Summertime festivals!

Festivals are fun!

I saw the first Lollapalooza in 1991. To the European readers, Lollapalooza was a concert festival that took place in the summertime and traveled 8-16 bands across the country on two or three stages.
It took it's lead from European festivals like Glastonbury and Lowlands, but lasted more than three days and moved around. And for a while it was the only festival in town.

Summertime 2007 and you can't swing a guitar and not hit a least 4 festivals in your 'hood.
I like festivals for their variety of bands, people, attitudes and foods. The community aspect of being in a crowd with 20,000 other people who think they were fans of Tool way before you were, fills me with a deep sense of belonging.

If you can't make one this year, recreating a festival is easy:Take a boombox with a mix tape(cd) in it outside with you. Press play. Rock.

Let's dance.1,2,3,4!

From Harry Jesus Potter to the African "little fur coat" son of Madonna.

1) Harry Potter Book Under High Security At Secret Locations: 20 millon dollars were used to protect the new Harry Potter book!! Shit.180 trucks to distribute it.Ok... i ll just suggest to invest 20 millon in loading 180 trucks with food and distribute it the poor favelas of Brazil, soon, the big Corcovado Jesus Christ ( one of the seven wonders of the world) in Rio, will be replace by a monumental kid made of stone with a cut in his forehead .

2 ) Crazy for Manu Chao: The famous filmaker Emir Kusturica( Black cat White cat, Underground) was in Argentina last March, filming a documentary about Diego Maradona's life. He crossed with Manu Chao and they made the new video of his new material La Radiolina, coming out worlwide on September 4th. Manu performs at the public mental hospital of Buenos Aires and three interns of the psichiatric hospital take part on the video Rainin' in paradize ( you can watch it in this site)

3) Radiohead finished the mix of their 7th album, they gave in New York City a first listening to qualified fans. There's not a date for the release , but it was confirmed that its coming out before this year ends.4) Morrissey lashed out at Madonna — and her adopted son David! — at his concert in Norfolk, Virginia. The eco-friendly rocker told concert-goers about fur-loving Madonna, “I wouldn’t be surprised if she [Madonna] made that African boy into a coat and wore him … for 15 minutes, and then threw it away.
”Morrissey balanced his unkind words for Madonna, with kind words for PETA, which he supports: “You haven’t even heard what I’m gratified about yet,” said the singer.“I’m very gratified to be so close to the international headquarters of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.”Ok, i love Morrisey , but man...veganism can turn easily in fascism, cool your jets!

see ya.

1,2,3 the music this week

rock and roll is not polution.

1. Live Earth: a series of eight concurrent concerts worldwide developed by Al Gore and designed to raise awareness about global warming. More than 100 artists took part in shows Saturday in New Jersey; London; Johannesburg, South Africa; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Tokyo; Sydney; and Hamburg, Germany. In other words: rich musicians trying to save the world from the same polution they produce , flying in their expensive private jets, riding limos from their expensive hotels to fullfilled stadiums of people producing more polution.
using tons of energy to save us from drowning as lonely polar bears , mixing chips with beers at the backstage and farting ( this kind of gas also contaminates).if you want to really get people's attention next time you should crucified Al Gore in front of the white house .in few words: some good performances to enjoy while the boat is sinking.

2.The Smashing Pumpkings are back, im still thinking if this is a good news or a bad one.Two years ago, front man Billy Corgan thrilled fans announcing his intention to revive the seminal alt-rock ensemble. He makes good on his word with "Zeitgeist," an album that reunites him with drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Produced with assistance from Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, the Cars, Foreigner) and Terry Date (Pantera, Rob Zombie), the 12-song set favors the Pumpkins' more extroverted side, emphasizing electric guitars over orchestral swells. The lead track, the explosive "Doomsday Clock," already popped up in the soundtrack to "Transformers.

3.Desperately Seeking Susan reborn as stage musical with songs by Blondie...The musical was conceived by US writer, director and actor Peter Michael Marino, whose other writing projects include Hollywood Nurses, a homage to lesbian pulp novels of the 1950s.
Debbie Harry has penned new song Moment of Truth for the show Producer Susan Gallin assured fans the show would be "very close to the movie"."The story is universal. It's a quirky, off-beat movie about women who change their lives and end up with the lives that they were meant to have."I asked Debbie if I could send her the treatment - that was a Friday - and by Monday she called and said 'it's great, I love it. Let's do it'. She just loved the idea."Among the Blondie songs set to feature in the show are Heart of Glass, One Way or Another and The Tide Is High. The production will open at London's Novello Theatre on October 12.Hopefully it will be a huge success," said Harry. "I would love it to come to Broadway."
...hopefully family and friends will get their hands in some tickets.

Sweeden Rocks!!!

Peter Bjorn and John

Many Swede rock bands have proven themselves as worthy title holders of Sweden's rock scene.
-The Ravonettes: alt. like drone rock catagory-The Helicopters: metal catagory-Sahara Hotnights: all girl rock catagory-The Hives: next big thing catagoryThe "newest" band to fit the alt./New York City catagory is Peter Bjorn and John.PB+J sound like 60's Brit pop tired of itself but still needing to tell you a story.

Not alienating and affirmative in that head nodding way. Check out their video on I Make Beatz for the single "Young Ones" of the new album, "Writer's Block."You'll be whistling another tune in no time.

We are in the middle of a musical overhaul. Then again, when aren't we?

A great time for sharing.

As I mentioned in the last blog, the Beastie Boys are dropping a new album this year.
Really, and Spankrock and The Go!Team will as well. And LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire will be touring together.

That's just great news. Corporate speak has a word called synergy. Defined, it is when two ideas or groups come together to create something stronger.

Sesame Street called it cooperation. What am I trying to say here? Nothing of substance. Just suggestions:-play together-rock out more-play together

Not in that order.
